Tony and Neil once told me they wouldnever do a gig or share a stage with Martin again. Doesn' t seem likely |

| You get a song, not even an original song from the "real" SSS once per decade. TJ is more interested in the "dad rock" carbonsilicon, but even here he'll ignore his own blogs for months, years...Tired stories about Mr. Thunders. Everyone has a Johnny Thunders story anyway, they're like pieces of the one true cross they used to carry about in the middle ages. The Sputnikworld site languishes with sloppy, ancient, and disconnected links. It's really an ugly edifice, and it used to be so cool.
Where am I going? SSSE has at least breathed some life into the old corpse. Prophet of Freak was sloppy, fun, danceable, poppy, r'n'rolly, The singles, eps, and Flaunt It come along. Fresh, new, and exciting, lovingly true to the original but made relevant for the 21st century. Some songs better than before: She's My Man. More obscure songs resurrected and polished, the way they should have sounded. Fascination-outstanding. A few nifty cover. All excellently produced and accessible.
Actual live gigs. Sure it'd be nice to have a bloke playing the guitar. But the logical extension of the SSS vision is a madman singing with lots of electronics. The live musicians are superfluous except for the singer. Every performance becomes karaoke night.
SSSE is carrying the torch, I'm not sure I even want to see SSS again, certainly not w/o Martin. I'd love to see SSSE though. |
